Richard M. Koehl, Ph.D., is an intellectual property litigation attorney and a partner of Blue Peak Law Group. Dr. Koehl has deep experience in all aspects of patent litigation as counsel for both plaintiffs and defendants. Contentious matters involving trademarks, trade dress, trade secrets, and intellectual property contracts have also been a prominent part of his practice.

Dr. Koehl was co-counsel for the petitioner in TC Heartland LLC v. Kraft Foods Group Brands LLC, 137 S. Ct. 1514 (2017), a widely-reported U.S. Supreme Court patent venue case. He has also appeared in district courts around the country, in inter partes review proceedings, and in appeals at the Federal, Second, and Third Circuits and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is admitted to the bar in Texas and New York.

Dr. Koehl is familiar with a variety of industries and technlogies. He graduated from Rice University in 1995 with a B.A. in chemistry. Before law school, he earned his Ph.D. from M.I.T. in 2000 for his work concerning spatial and temporal ultrafast imaging and control of terahertz wave packets, for which he received a patent.
